Facts > Emotions
Video Transcribed: Oklahoma Attorney Earl Lawson here with the unemployment experts. I just want to pass on a little tip today. When you’re filing for your unemployment benefits, let’s try and keep the emotion out of your filing on this. Emotion’s good, but you want the actual facts to be relayed to the Oklahoma Unemployment Security Commission.
A lot of times if you put a lot of emotion into it, calling your employer, some dirty names or just trying to vent your frustration with the person taking your information at the Oklahoma Unemployment Security Commission, they get a negative view of you and that sometimes skews their decision on as far as granting your unemployment benefits first thing off the bat and they do that. You don’t have to appeal, but just keep it unemotional. You have just the facts.
Don’t try and categorize your employer as a dirty, rotten person that’s just too hard to work for. That’s not going to get you benefits. What’s going to get you benefits is stating the facts as clearly and succinctly as you can, because that’s what your determination is going to be based on.
So, that’s just a little tip. If you’ve got anything else you want to have questions over or anything like that, then put them on the website, I’ll be glad to answer your questions and put it on the air. So anyway, it’s been a pleasure talking to you. You can contact me at earl@wirthlawoffice.com
