COVID-19 Has Had Impact on Unemployment
Video Transcribed: If I have been diagnosed with COVID or I have a fever and I’m not feeling well, and I’m waiting for my test results to come in, or have been exposed to someone with COVID and my boss tells me not to come into work.
Or I am a responsible person and I tell my boss that I’m sick and I have all the symptoms of COVID, and I’m waiting for my test results. How long do I stay out of work? And if I am out of work, do I receive unemployment, or how does that work?
The CARES Act has qualified you to receive unemployment. And if you are taking care of someone with COVID or you have it, you are able to file for unemployment benefits. You just go to the website.
The reason that you were separated from your employment is because you have lack of work; that’s what you’re supposed to mark. And then give the reason for either diagnosed with COVID-19 or you’re caring for someone with COVID-19. That’s the way to stay safe. That is how you prevent others from becoming infected with the virus and especially our vulnerable population.
If you have any questions about signing up for unemployment, how you should answer your questions, you’re welcome to consult with an attorney. Call the unemployment commission, if it’s possible to get a hold of them, or talk to me.
